WebOptical cavities are widely used in the field of laser interferometry, and longitudinal length shifts of a cavity mirror and the resulting change in the phase of the resonating field are well known. WebWe present a novel technique to frequency lock a laser to an optical cavity. This technique, tilt locking, utilizes a misalignment of the laser with respect to the cavity to produce a nonresonant spatial mode.
