I get the feelings about BT crap gear - we have the same here with our Telstra. Generally it is designed for people to plug and play though. The OP here wasn’t reporting issues with the equipment.

I use all 4 LAN ports on my current SmartHub and must either buy a switch/splitter or use the desktop on wifi which I do not want to do given all else that is using wifi around the house. Yet around the house, from 1m to 10m away from the router the speed through Speedtest barely reaches 90Mbs just a meter away, Now TV (wired) has the spinning logo during viewing. I plugged in a 1GB USB for the purposes of testing, with the aim to eventually attach one of my 3TB WD external hard drives. In Google Chrome I typed in my Default Gateway Address and entered my BT Admin Password in the Smart Hub 2 Manager. So far so good. ooty 3 days itinerary
